Born and raised in Bengaluru, India, Sanjith Konda embarked on the conventional route by pursuing a Bachelor of Business Studies at La Trobe University’s Bundoora Campus in Melbourne, Australia. However, destiny had a different plan for him. During his fifth semester, an entrepreneurial dream ignited within him, prompting him to make a courageous decision – to drop out of college and chase his vision.

Supported by an independent upbringing and encouraged by his father, a mechanical engineer at a Saudi Arabian oil company, and his homemaker mother, Sanjith had always shouldered responsibilities beyond his years. Armed with a bold resolve and an initial investment of AUD 2 lakh, Sanjith, along with his friend Asar Ahmed Syed and college seniors Preetam Akula and Arun P. Singh, took a leap of faith and opened the first ‘Dropout Chaiwala’ outlet on Elizabeth Street.

The journey, though challenging, was driven by Sanjith’s unwavering determination. Their modest menu, featuring five types of chai, slowly but steadily caught the attention of students and office-goers alike. As the venture gained traction, the team expanded, and by March, a mobile chai truck was on the move, catering to university events, festivals, and weddings. By August, the opening of a third store on La Trobe Street marked yet another milestone in Sanjith’s journey.

Under his leadership and with the dedication of a passionate team, including Apoorva Singla, an Indian student managing the Elizabeth store, Dropout Chaiwala’s offerings expanded to include light snacks. Within a remarkable year, the venture achieved an incredible feat – generating AUD 1 million in sales and providing employment opportunities for 40 individuals.

Today, at the age of 22, Sanjith Konda relishes a life he has carefully crafted, balancing his thriving business empire with pursuits like Cross-fit, swimming, and climbing. His journey, an embodiment of courage, passion, and the audacity to create a unique path, is a testament to the power of following one’s heart and taking calculated risks.
