Subway Artist Devon Rodriguez

An American artist and a renowned painter, Devon Rodriguez who got famous for his realistic portrait painting of riders on the New York City Subway systems.

He was born in 1996 in South Bronx and has been keen in this field from childhood. At the age of 8, he uses to make graffiti with his friend and he even got arrested at the age of 13 for that thing. But his passion for painting even got higher when he got his attention shifted towards portraits. He was rejected for High school of Art and Design in Manhattan in 2010 and then he attended his 2 years of schooling in Samuel Gompers High School in the Bronx and then got admission in High School Of Arts and Design in Manhattan and from there he got his graduate degree in 2014 and later joined Fashion Institute of Technology.

During his school days, he painted the realistic oil paint portrait of subway passenger which was noticed by famous sculptor John Ahearn in a painting exhibition and then he asked him to be a subject for his own sculpted projects and that was a massive achievement for Rodriguez.

After that his portrait or say plaster busts named The Rodriguez Twins was a finalist for Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition and it was also displayed in National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC in 2016.

Earlier that, in 2015 his own works were published in many publications like The New Yorker,  The Artists Magazine and The New York Sales Time’s Magazine. Recently his work towards Covid-19 awareness is getting noticed very much.

After all these massive achievements he has been one of the famous names when it comes to the field of real-life Portrait.
