In 2020, Ishan Sharma embarked on a journey to better himself by starting a YouTube channel. Little did he know that this endeavor would eventually shape his future as an entrepreneur. At the age of 20, Ishan made the bold decision to leave his college, BITS Pilani, Goa, and delve deeper into content creation and entrepreneurship.

Ishan’s turning point arrived after participating in a 24-hour Microsoft hackathon in December 2019. During the competition, he struggled to explain and sell his project effectively. This experience prompted him to explore ways to enhance his content delivery skills. Ishan’s journey into the world of podcasts began as an avenue for improving his communication abilities. Although many of his college peers were unfamiliar with podcasts at the time, Ishan recognized the potential of YouTube as a platform to reach a broader audience. He transitioned from audio content to video podcasts, honing his skills in front of the camera while delivering valuable insights.

Earning Recognition and Building Momentum:

Ishan’s dedication and hard work paid off when YouTube introduced new policies in July 2020 to support content creators in monetizing their videos. Despite starting out with just 3,000 subscribers, Ishan’s consistent efforts and engaging content gradually attracted a growing audience. His milestone moment arrived when he achieved 4,000 watch hours and 1,000 subscribers, accompanied by a realization that his passion could evolve into a career.

Over the next six months, Ishan’s commitment remained unwavering. He diligently uploaded videos, discussing topics ranging from college experiences to personal growth. As a result of his determination, Ishan’s YouTube channel flourished, amassing over 500,000 subscribers. His content, focused on productivity, work-life balance, health, and career insights, resonated with viewers seeking valuable guidance and inspiration.

Seizing Entrepreneurial Opportunities:

By the close of 2020, Ishan’s YouTube channel had gained significant recognition, catching the attention of several tech companies seeking similar content for their platforms. This marked the inception of MarkitUp, Ishan’s brainchild and a digital marketing agency that specializes in content creation.

Ishan’s collaboration with his roommate, Saransh Anand, who had a background in social media management, paved the way for MarkitUp. The agency’s mission was clear: to assist brands in creating engaging content, encompassing video production, graphic design, and creative meme creation tailored to target audiences.

A pivotal moment in Ishan’s journey was his decision to drop out of BITS Pilani, a testament to his unwavering commitment to MarkitUp and his entrepreneurial aspirations. Leveraging his YouTube platform, Ishan made a video announcement, expressing his intention to work with clients and provide mutual value. This strategic move proved successful, attracting both a dedicated audience seeking insightful content and clients in need of creative marketing solutions.

Today, MarkitUp boasts a portfolio of approximately 14 clients and operates with a dynamic remote team of 25 members. Ishan’s venture is a testament to his ability to adapt, seize opportunities, and cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit. From a YouTube enthusiast to a thriving entrepreneur, Ishan Sharma’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of passion, innovation, and dedication. As he continues to shape the digital marketing landscape, Ishan serves as an inspiration to aspiring content creators and business visionaries alike.
