Based out of Mumbai, India, Avani Rai has functioned as a cameraperson on various short fiction and narrative movies. Her latest movie: Raghu Rai-An Unframed Portrait’, coordinated and shot by her and co-delivered by ARTE FRANCE, IDFA BERTHA FUND debuted at IDFA in the opposition in November 2017. As a photographic artist she has added to the Sunday Guardian, Scroll, The Wire and is at present invests most her energy in Kashmir recording this politically muddled area and its kin.

Her father (Raghu Rai) shot her consistently and the camera was consistently there. Her first camera was a red and white film camera. It was an attractive instrument for her. That camera was given to her on the grounds that else she would go for the camera which was consistently there in my dad’s hand, and no photographic artist needs his camera removed, regardless of whether it’s by the girl. So that occurred—a photographic artist’s girl had a toy—and that was a camera! That was the start of her excursion in photography.

Avani Rai’s recollections of the most noticeably terrible mechanical catastrophes that struck Bhopal are through her dad Raghu Rai’s pictures. She had been to the city yet never shot and in October 2019, she got a chance to visit the Chingari Trust (established by Rashida Bee and Champa Devi Shukla, gas survivors and furthermore beneficiary of the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2004) in Bhopal.

Notable for her narrative on her dad Raghu Rai, prestigious photojournalist, a ton of her work is situated in Kashmir. She is cited saying, “In Kashmir, everything is a material. Regardless of whether you are standing and there is a reflection, or a youngster sitting before you, or a security individual in a shelter; everything recounts a story.” She utilizes her focal point to paint sections of day by day life in the midst of disorder and struggle. With the new repeal of Article 370, there were warmed discussions and contentions about various political features. In any case, just through her arrangement Exhibit A, can we genuinely see the human expense of generational injury. Her arrangement is meant to move the concentration to the lost voice of Kashmiri individuals, particularly ladies and kids.
