Debapriya Das is an oriental dance professional based out of Bangalore who is leading a dancing troupe called Nrityakosh, aBengaluru-based school and production company. She was raised in Mumbai and Kolkata, where she developed a very early interest in dance.

She began studying Bharatanatyam at the age of eight and after that pursued interest-driven studies in Kathak and fusion dance. Debapriya started working as a researcher at the Center for Study of Science, Technology, and Policy (CSTEP) in Bengaluru in 2012 after completing her post-graduate studies in economics.

Ten years later, Debapriya now manages Nrityakosh, a renowned center for both traditional and modern belly dance, as a flourishing dance school in the city.

He instructed in Middle Eastern classical and folk dances. She began his belly dancing journey in 2013, and she hasn’t looked back since. She studied Indian classical dance for a very long time, and she thinks every dancer has their own unique physical vocabulary and means of self-expression.

Debapriya Das’ Nrityakosh presented Safar-E-Raqs which was a theatrical production of belly dance that explores how the dance has been changed for various audiences and cultures from the late 1790s to the present. That evening took the audience through Middle-Eastern folk dances, classical and modern oriental styles, and Indian and tribal fusion belly dance repertoire. The dance was a collaborative effort between Nrityakosh Dance Company and several veteran belly dancers in Bengaluru.
