Shrimoyee Chakraborty, Founder & CEO of Calcutta Street
Shrimoyee Chakraborty is the founder and CEO of Calcutta Street. She is currently serving as a Producer and Presenter at the Bagh Films Limited in London, United Kingdom.
In 2016, Shrimoyee opened her own Bengali eatery, Calcutta Street, in London. In 2022, she has already premiered her first documentary series, which attempts to dispel misconceptions about Indian culture through different talks with some of the most real and well-known figures of contemporary India. Her first television appearance is in the five-part docuseries India Bites, which premieres on Tastemade and is available to stream on a variety of platforms, including Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, Amazon FreeVee, DirectTV Stream, and TV Now. India is the focus of India Bites from her perspective.
Shrimoyee, who was born in the suburbs of Kolkata, was a picky eater from an early age. She traveled to the UK in 2010 to attend the University of Manchester after receiving her diploma from Mumbai’s Sophia College. She was a small-town girl with huge dreams. After moving to London, Shrimoyee was astounded to learn how difficult it was to obtain genuine Calcutta food. She started a string of pop-up shops in London in 2015 with the intention of redressing this. The business was a big success, and Shrimoyee quickly quit her work at an economic think tank to devote herself full-time to her passion for cooking and eating.
Calcutta Street has received praise from well-known food critics around the world, and Shrim is renowned for introducing authentic Bengali cuisine to London. Shrimoyee has been featured in publications ranging from the Independent to the Financial Times, the Telegraph, and Grazia. But Shrimoyee’s dream is not over yet. The chef has been commuting between cities as she works on her upcoming show about the native liquor of India.
