Born and raised in Washington, D.C, he experienced childhood with the crossing point of fourteenth and Newton Streets in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington. His dad left the world when he was youthful and his mom worked in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. He has an older sister. In middle school, his mom and he moved to a rural dark neighborhood in Maryland. He was taught at the Sidwell Friends School and Harvard University where he graduated with a degree in Philosophy.
