Kanika Jain, Founder and creative director of Kanelle
Kanika Jain is the founder and creative director of Kanelle, a women’s exclusive fashion business which was started in 2011. Kanelle is a combination of the words ‘Kanika’ and ‘Elle,’ which roughly translates to ‘Kanika’s invention for her.’ Her line consists of timeless items that have been meticulously created.
Renu Jain, her mother, who was born and reared in Delhi, would sew exquisite clothes, which sparked her passion for fashion and design. Kanika, a marketing management graduate from Middlesex University in London, couldn’t give up her ambition of working in the fashion sector. She moved to India in early 2009 and worked on a few design and styling projects before launching Kanelle, a womenswear label in India, in 2011.
Her business Kanelle began to gain prominence when she launched numerous collections with a workforce of fewer than 20 people. The brand sells kurta sets, tunics, sarees, dresses, jumpsuits, skirts, shirts, and pants for an average of Rs 6,000.
Kanelle is a hybrid Direct-to-Customer (D2C) brand that has both an online and offline presence. Its products are offered on internet marketplaces such as Nykaa, Aza Fashions, and Amazon, in addition to its website. Its products are also available in ten cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, and Raipur, through multi-brand stores and designer outlets.
Kanelle, an established design house, debuted its distinctive Fall line, Blue Jean Baby, at New York Fashion Week. The collection promotes washed and processed blue denim that feels amazing on the skin. An ever-so-subtle reference to the classic 1980s and Lady Diana’s effortless beauty and feminity. After the brand’s success at NYFW, they had the opportunity to interview Kanika Jain, the brand’s creative genius.
