Emily Weiss is the founder and CEO of Glossier Inc, a digital-first cosmetics brand that is revolutionizing the way people think about beauty. Glossier is the creator of the “skin first, makeup second” beauty concept, which emphasizes individual choice and independence. She’s also the creator of the Into the Gloss blog.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in studio art from New York University. Glossier was founded by Weiss when she was 29 years old, and in its brief existence (she is now 34), the company has become culturally relevant and financially spectacular.

Weiss began pitching venture financiers with growth ideas in 2014, including a possible Into the Gloss-curated e-commerce platform. With the support of venture capitalist Kirsten Green, the founder of San Francisco-based Forerunner Ventures, Weiss was able to raise $2 million in seed funding. Weiss used the money from this round of funding to hire a small team and establish Glossier.com.

On her Into the Gloss blog in October 2014, Weiss revealed Glossier’s first four products and announced the debut of Glossier.com. With an all-purpose balm, a face mist, a sheer skin tint, and a moisturizer, the Glossier team launched the e-commerce site. Glossier.com sells modern basics in seven countries, including skincare, cosmetics, body care, and fragrance.

Emily is heavily involved in the creation of physical, digital, and offline experiences that inspire millions of Glossier consumers and community members to talk and connect. In 2015, she was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list. [1 She was named to Time magazine’s “Next 100” in 2019.
