Daughter Of Bihar: Maithili Thakur
Recently during Durga Pooja, a girl was seen singing Aigiri Nandini, which is a bhajan of Goddess Durga. This video went viral on Instagram reels with over 30 million views and more than 2 million likes. It also got more than 5 Million views on YouTube. The girl singing that song was Maithili Thakur.
Maithili Thakur is a trained Indian classical singer and sings cover songs and traditional folk songs in Hindi, Maithili and Bhojpuri language. She was born in Madhubani, Bihar on 25 July 2020 and her name was kept after goddess Sita as well as her mother tongue. She has a strong musical family background as her father Pt. Ramesh Thakur is a music teacher in Delhi and her grandfather was also a folk singer. She learned classical singing with her father along with her two younger brothers named Rishav and Ayachi who are also singers as well as musicians. Maithili also plays Harmonium and Tabla. She did her schooling from Bal Bhavan International School, Delhi.
Being such a god-gifted child with an awesome voice at such a small age, her father took her to the auditions of Little Champs in 2011 and she appeared in that ZeeTV reality singing show. In 2015 she participated in Indian Idol Junior, telecasted on SonyTV. In 2016, she won the show “I Genius Young Singing Star” and after that, she launched her first album, Ya Rabba under the big banner Universal Music.
Her life changed in 2017 when she participated in the live singing show, Rising Star and she was the first finalist of the show after she sang Om Namah Shivaay and got a direct entry into the finale but lost just by two votes. After that, her popularity went on a different level because of her incredible voice at such a small age. She was appreciated by singers like Shankar Mahadevan, Monali Thakur, Udit Narayan, Diljit Dosanjh.
In the lockdown period, she used to come live on her social media handles with her brothers and used to entertain everyone with their talents and was appreciated by the whole country. She is one of the brightest future singers of India.
