Scam 1992

Risk hai to Ishq hai, Big Bull, Man of Integrity, Bacchan of BSE, these are the beauty of words to describe Harshad Mehta delivered in Hansal Mehta’s directed Scam 1992, a web series which is based on the book The Scam by Sucheta Dalal and her husband Debasish Basu which story of the financial crisis in the stock market of India which was all due to one man Harshad Mehta and his scam of about Rs 5000 crore.

In this web series, Pratik Gandhi is playing the role of Harshad Mehta, the man without any fear of failure and who wants to create history.  The whole story is about his journey and how he found many loopholes in the Bombay Stock Exchange and became the king of the ring as called in the series. But then he got exposed by journalist Sucheta Dalal, whose role is played by Shreya Dhanwantry.

Pratik Gandhi’s acting is just pleasing to watch, as to how he just lived the character. One benefit for him was that he himself is a Gujarati, it was easy for him to adopt Harshad’s accent as he was also a Gujarati. His acting showed that Harshad was not a person with bad intentions, instead showed him as a man with family values. Shreya Dhanwantry who is earlier seen in The Family Man did justice with the character of Sucheta Dala, the journalist. Rest casts which include Sharib Hashmi, Satish Kaushik, Anant Mahadevan and others give the series required stability.

The whole shoot was completed in 6 months at more than 200 locations, and that too showing Bombay in late its 80s and 90s, the team has done a great job. Director Hansal Mehta’s early idea was to make this as a film but it was never made and at last, it was shot as a series and got released in 2020 on SonyLIv.

Not only acting and directing, but the way cinematography is done and the way dialogues are written and delivered brings life to this series.
