HDFC Bank Recovery Visit Turns Into Nightmare for Haryana Family, Borrower Alleges Assault and Public Humiliation
A disturbing set of allegations has emerged from Haryana, where borrower Mr. Jagmohan has accused individuals allegedly involved in loan recovery activities of subjecting him and his family to intimidation, humiliation and physical violence during a recovery visit.
According to the borrower, the incident relates to Loan Account No. 0001012690001473356. Mr. Jagmohan alleges that an individual identified as Mr. Satyawan, who was introduced as an HDFC Bank recovery agent, arrived at his residence along with his cousin Vikas and four other unidentified persons.
What followed, according to the borrower, was not a lawful recovery interaction but an ordeal that left an entire family traumatized.
Mr. Jagmohan alleges that the group entered his residential premises and began using abusive and threatening language. The borrower further claims that the confrontation escalated into physical assault in the presence of family members, neighbours and relatives.
Most concerning are allegations that not only Mr. Jagmohan, but also his wife and children were subjected to intimidation and violence. The family claims that the incident caused physical injuries, emotional distress and severe humiliation before members of the local community.
The borrower has further questioned why individuals who were allegedly not authorised recovery personnel were permitted to participate in the recovery visit. According to the allegations, one of the persons accompanying the recovery agent was his cousin, raising serious concerns regarding recovery practices and accountability.
Consumer rights advocates have long maintained that recovery of legitimate dues cannot come at the cost of a borrower’s dignity, safety or fundamental rights. Financial institutions are expected to ensure that recovery activities remain professional, lawful and compliant with applicable regulatory guidelines.
The allegations have reignited concerns regarding the conduct of certain recovery operations and the need for strict oversight of individuals engaged in field collections. Borrowers and their families should never have to fear intimidation, threats or public humiliation within the safety of their own homes.
Mr. Jagmohan has urged authorities and senior officials to investigate the incident and determine whether recovery protocols were followed. He maintains that no financial dispute can justify conduct that allegedly places women, children and families at risk.
At the time of publication, the allegations remain those of the borrower and have not been independently verified. HDFC Bank and the individuals named in the allegations had not publicly responded to the claims at the time of writing.
