Nagendra Kumar Raja

Nagendra Kumar Raja, the founder of TejaSoft Innovations, epitomizes the journey of a scientist-turned-entrepreneur whose relentless pursuit of technological excellence has spanned nearly three decades. His career has been a testament to the transformative power of computer science, from his early days as a DRDO-CAIR scientist to his current role as a tech entrepreneur.

A Lifelong Affection for Computers:

Nagendra’s love affair with computers began in the late 1980s, during his engineering studies. While pursuing mechanical engineering, he was introduced to the world of programming, which ignited his curiosity for problem-solving with technology. Despite encountering initial challenges—like writing two lines of code and facing 80 errors in his first attempt—Nagendra’s determination only grew stronger.

His dedication to mastering programming languages such as C, C++, and graphics led him to create a software program for an ice cream factory while still in college. This early venture into software development showcased his belief that computers should serve human needs and not the other way around.

The Journey from DRDO to Private Sector:

Upon completing his engineering degree, Nagendra joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in 1994 as a scientist. While at DRDO, he recognized the potential of software to streamline processes and enhance productivity.

Driven by his passion, Nagendra purchased his own Pentium 5 computer for a substantial sum at the time, allowing him to work on solving existing productivity gaps within DRDO. His innovations included enhancing AutoCAD with LISP libraries, automating data capture for performance analysis, and sharing analytics reports.

His ground-breaking work even extended to virtual reality and artificial intelligence, leading to a virtual reality workshop for DRDO and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). During this period, technologies like AI, ML, IoT, and cloud were considered premium, and Nagendra was at the forefront of their practical application.

The Transition to the Private Sector:

In 2000, Nagendra made the transition to the private sector, embarking on a journey that would see him work with renowned companies like LG Soft and Satyam Infoway. His role in building LG Soft’s Java Competence Centre in 1997 marked the beginning of his foray into the corporate world.

Yet, it was his tenure at Sun Microsystems from 2003 to 2005 that sowed the seeds of entrepreneurship. His work in streamlining complex code, applying agile methodologies, and championing clean code practices provided the foundation for TejaSoft, his entrepreneurial venture.

TejaSoft Innovations: A Legacy of Excellence

Founded in 2005, TejaSoft Innovations has become synonymous with excellence in software engineering. The company’s flagship digital brand, ‘Clean Code,’ set the tone for Nagendra’s commitment to quality.

TejaSoft’s mission revolves around ‘Service 2.0,’ enabling senior software talent to deliver superior products at lower costs within planned timelines. With a client-centric approach, TejaSoft has served 35 clients across five countries, including renowned names like Honeywell, Virtuosa, and the Indian Railways.

One of Nagendra’s crowning achievements has been the development of ‘Code Doctors.’ This innovative platform offers CTO and tech team on-demand services, where a team of global experts treats and revives complex software code. This service has been instrumental in solving critical problems and ensuring code health for start-ups and service companies.

Key Learnings and Advice:

Nagendra’s rich career in technology has imparted valuable lessons. He shares some key takeaways:

  • Unit Testing is Crucial: Unit testing, although time-consuming, is an essential tool for enhancing productivity and cost savings.
  • Embrace Clean Code Practices: Prioritize clean code practices, as they can streamline complex processes and lead to efficient code.
  • Code is Never Wrong, Requirements Differ: Understand that code is seldom wrong; instead, it’s essential to align requirements with long-term scalability and flexibility.

Nagendra Kumar Raja’s journey from a scientist at DRDO to a tech entrepreneur is a testament to his unwavering passion for software engineering and his dedication to making technology serve humanity’s needs.
