The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday filed a charge sheet against the bank’s founder Rana Kapoor, his family, Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) promoter and executive directors Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan in the Yes Bank (YES Bank) case.

In this charge sheet of about 100 pages, DOiT Urban Ventures Limited and DHFL along with all these people have also been accused.

What is the matter

It is worth noting that the CBI had registered a case on March 7 in connection with Yes Bank’s suspicious loan to DHFL. It was alleged that a case was made between Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor and DHFL promoter Kapil Wadhavan, Dheeraj Wadhawan to benefit each other.

Yes Bank’s investment of around Rs 3,700 crore in short term debentures of DHFL and Rs 600 crore loan given by DHFL to DOiT Urban Ventures Ltd (DUVPL) was under investigation. DOiT Urban Ventures Ltd (DUVPL) is actually a company of daughters of Rana Kapoor. It is believed that a loan of Rs 600 crore given by DFHL to the company was a bribe given to Rana Kapoor in exchange for putting money in the debentures of DHFL.

The loan given to DUVPL was in lieu of a mortgage of a property which had a market value of only Rs 40 crore, but the loan account showed its value to be Rs 750 crore. Similarly, Yes Bank gave a loan of Rs 750 crore to another company whose owners are actually Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhavan. This loan is also under the scanner of CBI.

On April 26, the CBI detained the Wadhawan brothers from Satara district in Mahabaleshwar district of Maharashtra. Along with Wadhawan, 21 other people were caught by the Satara police after they were found to be breaking the rules of lockdown and quarantine. Both the brothers were first remanded to CBI custody and later sent to judicial custody.

Rana Kapoor and Wadhawan brothers are currently lodged in Taloja Jail in Maharashtra. The CBI charge sheet will be kept in the Quarantine section for two days, after which it will be sent to the court.
