Objections raised over film title ‘Ghooskhor Pandit’; social media users demand change
The upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandit, directed by Neeraj Pandey, has triggered backlash on social media over its title, with critics calling it caste-insensitive and offensive amid an already polarised social climate.
Several users have objected to the use of the surname Pandit, traditionally associated with Brahmins, arguing that the title reinforces negative stereotyping at a time when slogans like “Brahmin Bharat Chodo” are increasingly visible in public discourse.
Taking to social platforms, critics questioned the creative choice and urged the makers and platform to reconsider the name of the film. Some users directly tagged Netflix India, director Neeraj Pandey, and lead actor Manoj Bajpayee, calling for an immediate change.
“When such divisive slogans are becoming common, couldn’t the makers have chosen a better name?” one post read, while others described the title as “socially irresponsible” and “insensitive.”
As of now, no official statement has been issued by the filmmakers, the cast, or Netflix India addressing the criticism. The controversy continues to gain traction online, with debates intensifying over creative freedom versus social responsibility in cinema.
Vanity Stardom will continue to monitor the situation and report further developments as they emerge.
