Nepal’s parliament approves disputed map, shows three areas of India

The new map includes all three parts of India – Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura. India has been opposing the new map of Nepal, but despite this, it has got approval from Nepali Parliament.

The proposal to amend the disputed map has been passed in the Parliament of Nepal. The new map includes all three parts of India – Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura. The Nepali parliament with 275 members cast 258 votes in favor of this controversial bill.

Let us know that due to the border dispute in India and Nepal, relations are going strained. On 8 May, the road constructed from Lipulekh to Dharachula was inaugurated by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. After this Nepal protested, stating Lipulekh as its part. On 18 May, Nepal released a new map. In this, three areas of India called Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani as their share.

This revised map of Nepal was released by the Ministry of Land Resources at the meeting of Nepal Cabinet. Cabinet members present in the meeting supported it.

Nepal released a new map on 18 May, in which Kalapani, Lipulekh, and Limpiyadhura of India had declared their share. With this move, the friendship between India and Nepal started to crack. India has strongly opposed this but Nepal is now adamant on this map.

Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli accused India of illegal possession. They also claimed that they would take back their land. On 11 June, Nepal’s cabinet constituted a committee of 9 people. The land which Nepal has been claiming for so many days and is creating a dispute with India. Nepal has no proof of its authority on that land.

MP protested

Janata Samajwadi Party MP Sarita Giri has registered a protest against this bill in Nepal. He demanded the withdrawal of the amendment bill and the restoration of the old map.

Sarita Giri proposed to amend the bill to restore the earlier map, in which Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota rejected the amendment under Article 112. Article 112 gives the speaker the power to reject the amendment. Later, MP Sarita Giri’s house was also attacked. He was warned to leave the country by putting a black flag on his house.
