Making Data Management Easier With Cohesity, Mohit Aron

Mohit Aron is the founder of Cohesity, a company that promises to make data administration easier for modern businesses. The company believes that simplicity is at the heart of modern data management, and its aim is to drastically simplify how businesses manage their data in order to unlock boundless value.

Aron is from Chandigarh who has completed his graduation from IIT Delhi and has earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rice University in Houston. Aron created Cohesity as a solution to bring order to the world of data management. The huge and complicated digital landscape, unlike his native city of Chandigarh, has never had an intended structure at its basis. The solutions for managing companies’ data footprints were primarily constructed on the fly, with providers and countries scattered across the globe.

Mohit founded Nutanix with three individuals from Aster Data Systems in 2009, when he felt comfortable with the idea of launching a company. In 2013, Mohit felt compelled to construct something larger. The technology had progressed a little, and he noticed an issue with mass data fragmentation. The goal was to create a logical platform that worked behind the scenes, was easy to manage, and could be consolidated, similar to Google. He performed the same thing for his customers by consolidating data. His team began with backups and progressed to data management. This means that the user can start with backups and progress to using the platform as a filer, running analytics, and migrating data to the cloud, which is how Cohesity came to be.

The vast majority of enterprise data backups, archives, file shares, object stores, and data used for development, testing, and analytics is stored in fragmented infrastructure silos, making it impossible to preserve, manage, and analyse. Cohesity unifies silos into a single web-scale platform that spans on-premises, cloud, and edge, and empowers enterprises to build apps on that platform, making data backup and analysis easier than ever.

Cohesity is changing the data management business under Aron’s leadership, employing over 1,300 people internationally, being named a Leader by independent research firms and organisations worldwide, being named a “technology pioneer” by the World Economic Forum, and being named a 2019 CNBC Disruptor.
