After strong opposition by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has described his suggestions as baseless and based on misinterpretation.

  • Environmental impact assessment notification on 2020
  • Congress charges – even those who ignore the rules will get approval

The controversy over the draft of the Central Government’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) notification 2020 does not seem to stop. On June 30, the Delhi High Court extended the deadline for sending comments by the public to the Central Government’s controversial Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) notification, 2020 on August 11. Earlier, this date was 30 June 2020.

In fact, recently after Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed strong objection to this, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar has described his suggestions as baseless and based on misinterpretation. Former Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh wrote a letter to him raising concerns about the format of the EIA. In response to this, Javadekar has given this answer.

What is Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

The development projects that are going to be implemented, what will be the harmful effect on the environment, what are the measures to reduce this loss. The EIA has been formed to give suggestions about all this. It is only after fulfilling the conditions of the EIA that the environment ministry imposes its seal on development projects.

But questions were raised on the draft 2020 notification of environmental impact assessment. It is alleged that one of the most worrying and anti-environment provisions has been included in the notification, 2020, that now companies or industries will also be given the opportunity to get clearance which has been violating environmental rules before.

The Congress is the attacker on this. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has also alleged that the changes in the notification are not based on audit, assessment and analysis and no research has been done at all. Also, this will give the Center full power to appoint state environmental impact assessment agencies.

In this series, an environmental activist Vikrant Tongad filed a petition in the High Court stating that the period for inviting objections to the notification by the Central Government has been extended by 60 days, but by the government it It is not clearly stated when the 60-day period will begin.

Hearing the same petition, the High Court had also asked the Central Government to give clarification regarding the last date for making objections and suggestions regarding the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) notification for the year 2020.

At present, the controversy over the notification of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) does not seem to stop. After allegations and counter-allegations from the Congress, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar is also giving clarification. He also replied to the objections of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and said that a detailed reply will also be given to your letter.
