Founder Of India’s First Vegan Cosmetic Brand-Pulp, Goutham Uppaluri
Goutham Uppaluri is the founder of Pulp which is India’s first superfood and vegan skincare brand for Gen Z and millennials.
After obtaining his master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences and working in the United States for a few years, Goutham returned to India, fascinated by brands and startups. His friends and cousins would beg him to acquire different kinds of skincare products after every trip to India, convincing him of the potential in India’s skincare sector, which was estimated at Rs 129.76 billion in 2020.
Most companies, according to Goutham, are highly clinical and focus on the ingredients, but Pulp focused its messaging on the customers. Almost all of its products are now geared toward Gen Z and millennials, and are titled after specific scenarios such as “when you want to go on a date” or “after you’ve had a long day.”
The most intriguing aspect of the brand is their cruelty-free, vegan skincare philosophy. People don’t often think about the ingredients in the things they’re happy to consume; yet, with harmful chemicals and even products tested on animals, people don’t always know what they’re getting into. Pulp, on the other hand, is upfront about its components and does not use animals in its testing. Goutham argues that this isn’t even a unique factor; it’s the way things should be, in his opinion.
Gowtham is also working to establish a community in order to create a “strong source of brand endorsement” that generates trust, creates an emotional connection, and makes the brand more relevant. Pulp aspires to become a household name in the next few years when it comes to superfood skincare for teenagers.
