Founder Of Ascent Meditech, Rajiv Mistry
Rajiv Mistry is the founder of Ascent Meditech, a company that provides pain treatment services. It is a consumer healthcare multinational based in India that has been in business for over three decades.
Rajiv is a first-generation entrepreneur who owns and operates the Flamingo brand, which is a sub-company of Ascent Meditech, which manufactures and markets orthopedic soft goods, wound care, and mobility products. Mistry, an engineer by training, began producing electronic medical equipment in 1991 when the concept of heat belts was foreign to India. In the first year after Rajiv released the heating belt, the company’s annual sales were less than Rs five lakh. Flamingo, which is now known as Ascent Meditech Limited (AML), is estimated to generate an income of Rs 200 crore in the next three decades.
Rajiv knew he didn’t want to work a 9-5 job after obtaining his engineering degree in Mumbai. Rather, he desired to put his skills to work in the corporate world. After witnessing the agony caused by heated water bags, he came up with the concept of creating an electronic heating belt. Flamingo’s customer base rose after 2005 when the market opened up and people began to spend money on comfort.
Flamingo then entered the soft goods area for orthopedics, followed by the wound-care and mobility space. Brand Flamingo has evolved from a single product line to a multi-category umbrella brand with over 320 products. Flamingo branded products are sold in 47 countries globally, making it one of India’s largest consumer healthcare brands.
