Founded by a Dubai national and an Egyptian engineer, ASGC began operations in 1989 and since then has emerged as a vertically integrated construction conglomerate. Part of the Al Shafar Group, the umbrella that comprises 26 diverse enterprises, has allowed the company to exercise control over almost every point of its supply chain – positioning it for unmatched quality control over project timelines. It is this in-house capability that has been a success factor for the company, enabling ASGC to deliver turnkey solutions spread across a wide array of sectors.

ASGC has played an important role in transforming the skyline of UAE over the past three decades. Some of the most iconic projects were completed, such as the Dubai Police Headquarters, the Waldorf Astoria on Palm Jumeirah, Mohammad Bin Rashid Library that is the biggest cultural project in the Arab world, and over 700 apartments in Bluewaters Island with Kier and all upgrades that are being crucial in Dubai International Airport. These projects reflect the commitment of ASGC to not merely meet but to exceed clients’ expectations, from government bodies to private enterprises.

ASGC is equally committed to sustainability. Its approach, “Constructing for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” elaborates on eco-friendly practices and designs. It has been capable of completing numerous projects that have attained excellent recognition in green building certifications like Estidama and LEED. Hence, the processes at ASGC always embrace the most recent technological innovations in reducing ASGC’s environmental footprint while increasing project efficiency. This sustainable value will not only meet the long-term interests of clients and stakeholders but also contribute to the benefits of the environment.

Asgc has demonstrated to be a socially responsible company with commitment shown in good health initiatives and donating to support seasonal workers in Egypt. It has managed the difficult market conditions by formulating strategies ensuring business continuity, though in a safe and sound environment for its workforces.

Another bold move ASGC took in 2020 was becoming the biggest shareholder of the UK’s Costain Group, having acquired 15% of its capital to raise its capital. Such a strategic move reflects ASGC’s vision for growth as well as its ambitious expansion towards the bigger world beyond its UAE operations. Nevertheless, in September 2024, ASGC sold its shareholding of Costain to institutional investors, thereby allowing the company to concentrate on its core construction operations within the Middle East and North Africa.

It includes iconic and well-known clients such as Expo 2020, Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai, SEHA, ADNOC, and the Dubai World Trade Centre, amongst others. As a testament to its commitment to constant innovation, quality, and reliability, ASGC has set for itself the benchmark of excellence in construction across the United Arab Emirates and the region.

ASGC is focused on embracing the new technologies and methodologies to develop service lines. Now, it looks at where it stands now and wishes to be in years ahead. Based on this track record and outlook, Al Shafar General Contracting Co. LLC is shaping up to redefine the skyline of the emirate as well as that of the broader region for years to come.
