This law is being brought to end the autonomy of Hong Kong
China on Thursday passed the draft National Security Bill to seize Hong Kong and end its autonomy. This law of China is receiving severe criticism worldwide, including Hong Kong. Strong demonstrations against this law have also been seen.
At the same time, the standing committee of the National People’s Congress reviewed the National Security Bill. The law covers four types of offenses, including offenses related to succession, matters of state power, local terrorist activities and cooperation with foreign or external powers to endanger national security.
In this bill neither the definition of these crimes is given in detail nor the punishment is given. So far, it has not been clear when the final version of this law will be passed. However, China has repeatedly said that it will make and implement this law despite all the criticisms.
This law was first tried to be passed by the Hong Kong legislature, but this was not done due to local protests. After this, steps were taken to make this law at the national level. Those who criticize this law say that this law will limit freedom of expression and political activities of the opposition.
