The TikTok app is quite popular in India. Bytedance, the parent company of this app, has now announced the closure of the short video app in India.

ByteDance, parent company of TikTok, has decided to shut down two of its apps in India. The company launched these apps in 2017. These two apps are Vigo Video and Vigo Lite.

Both these apps were brought to short form sketches and lip sync on songs to share. The company has said that both these apps will be discontinued from October this year. A statement has also been issued by Bytedance to close these two apps.

The company has posted a letter which is titled – A farewell letter. It says that the company is discontinuing the Vigo and Vigo Lite apps. The company has said that users can transfer the data of these apps to TikTok as well.

Significantly, this Vigo app of Bytedance could not be popular like Tik Tok. According to a report by Tech Crunch, there were 4 million monthly active users of the Vigo Video app. Vigo Lite had 1.5 million monthly active users.

From 31 October 2020, both these apps will stop working in India. Currently, ByteDance has not given a reason to discontinue these applications. These apps, including India, are also being closed from Brazil and the Middle East.

The company said in a statement, ‘We launched it in 2017 and since then the Vigo Video app has given millions of users the opportunity to show their talent through stories.’

The company has thanked the people, saying that information about the shutdown of these apps will be sent to the users through these app notifications. In this, there will be instructions on how users can save their personal data from these apps.

Users will be given the opportunity to download their videos, personal information, chat history and favorite list before the app is deleted forever.
