Bombings in market near army headquarters in Pakistan, one killed; More than a dozen injured
Islamabad One person was killed and 15 others were injured in a bomb blast on Friday in a busy market in Rawalpindi city in Pakistan. The market is close to the Pakistan Army Headquarters. Police spokesman Sajidul Hasan said the bombing took place in the Sadar Bazar area of the city. According to preliminary reports, the explosive material was placed in an electric pole.
The properties around the blast site have been badly damaged. Authorities have laid siege to the area and rescue operations are being carried out. A police spokesperson said that the investigation team and the forensic science lab personnel were collecting evidence from the scene.
He said that this blast is an attempt of organized terrorism, but those who are playing with people’s lives will not be able to escape from the clutches of the law. At the moment no one has claimed responsibility for the blast.
The surrounding houses have also suffered significant damage in a blast near the Saddar Koila Center Chowk. The reason behind the blast is not yet known and security personnel are busy investigating it. According to Pakistani media, the blast occurred in a motorcycle, after which there was chaos in the area. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. At the same time, security personnel have sealed the entire area.
