About 14 percent of India’s total imports come from China
The Modi government is considering increasing the custom duty amid the ongoing tension with China. The government may increase the custom duty on goods imported from China. However, no decision has been taken yet. There is an attempt to cut imports of non-essential goods. At present, the Ministry of Commerce is in discussion with the Finance Ministry.
About 14 percent of India’s total imports come from China. Between April 2019-February 2020, India imported goods worth $ 62.4 billion, while exports to the neighboring country were $ 15.5 billion.
The main items imported from China include clocks, toys, sporting goods, furniture, mattresses, plastics, electrical appliances, chemicals, iron and steel items, mineral fuels.
India is engaged in teaching a lesson
Let us know that after the handiwork of China in the Galvan Valley of Ladakh, India has now started teaching it a lesson. Earlier, Indian Railways terminated an agreement with the Chinese company. In 2016, an agreement was made with the Chinese company for Rs 471 crore, in which it had to install a signal system on the 417 km long rail track. The government has already instructed BSNL and MTNL to reduce the use of Chinese equipment.
At the same time, the trade organization CAT has decided to intensify the national campaign to boycott Chinese products and promote Indian goods. The organization has prepared a list of 500 goods, from which it has been decided not to order from China.
Significantly, the anti-China atmosphere in the country is at its peak. A tremendous campaign is going on on social media that the goods of Chinese companies should be boycotted. RSS-linked Swadeshi Jagran Manch has demanded that Chinese companies should not be awarded contracts for Indian projects.
