Sonia Huria

In the realm of media and communication, Sonia Huria is a force to be reckoned with. She is the ultimate boss in the media and advertising sector, and she is essential in influencing Indian attitudes toward gender roles.

She manages the media conglomerate’s communications, network marketing, and social impact agendas as the Head of Corporate Marketing, Communications, and Sustainability at Viacom18.

Sonia began her work as an associate at Weber Shandwick in 2002 after earning a post-graduate diploma in public relations and corporate communications from Mumbai’s Xavier Institute of Communications.

After starting her professional career at Weber Shandwick, later she moved to Genesis Burson Marsteller, two of the country’s most prestigious public relations firms, where she gained experience in the communication function. She joined Viacom18 in 2008 to develop the company’s flagship channel, COLORS. She increased her portfolio to include more skills and responsibilities as the network developed both horizontally and vertically, eventually directing the functions over the last four years.

Building brand communication strategies, implementing them at scale, bridging internal communication across a geographically and demographically diverse workforce, and crafting an organization’s humane story, these are the intrinsic challenges that pique her interest and keep her motivated to keep going. Sonia was named to lead Amazon Prime India’s communications operations in September 2020.

She also has the honor of leading one of the most award-winning communications teams in the country, with awards at PRWeek Asia Awards, South Asia SABRE Awards, GoaFest Abbys, and Indian PR & Corporate Communications Awards. Her team has helped her to be named one of the 100 most important individuals in the world by the Global Power Book, as well as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in the Indian Media, Marketing, and Advertising Industry by Impact Magazine in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
