Fact Check: Is PUBG Banned in India With 59 Chinese Apps Banned?

Many Facebook and Twitter users have shared posts related to this claim. India Today’s Anti-Fake News War Room (AFWA) found that this claim is false. PUBG is neither a Chinese app nor is it banned.
While sharing the post, a user wrote, “Bad news for nachos. India banned 59 Chinese apps including Tik-Talk, PubG ”. Another user wrote, “Government of India banned 59 Chinese applications, including greetings, tick talk, and PUBG.”

Claim investigation
We found that the list related to the ban on Chinese apps has been released by the Indian government, but the name of PUBG is not there.
This list has also been shared by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Twitter.

South Korean app is PUBG
To find out which country PUBG is an app, we searched keywords on the Internet. We came to know that this is an app of South Korean company Crafton Game Union. It is clearly written on the company’s website that they own the ownership of PUBG game.
In some posts that were going viral on social media, it was also being said that PUBG is an app of a Chinese company named Tencent Games.
Through keyword search, we came to know that Tencent Games is the company which is looking at the distribution of the mobile version of PUBG in India. This is the reason that people see its name after searching the PubG app on PlayStore.
Many people like PUBG games in India. Many people play it together. There are battles between the players. PubG was the most played mobile game in India during a lockdown .
Overall, it is clear that the claim being made on social media is false. PUBG is a South Korean app and its name is not included in the list of apps that the Indian government has recently banned.
