Mouawad’s Sparkling Journey: 130 Years of Luxury, Heritage, and Innovation
It was in 1905 when Mouawad first dazed the world with its sublime jewellery, intricate timepieces, and the timepieces of the objet d’art. This family owned brand, which finds roots in the Lebanese craft based out of Geneva, widened its global reach by becoming a home for clients looking to adorn royalty, celebrities, and discerning clients across multiple continents. A legacy of artistry, innovation, and a never-ending quest for excellence, Mouawad sets the benchmark for luxury and elegance under the creative direction of the visionary fourth generation: Fred, Alain, and Pascal Mouawad.
Mouawad traces its story back to 1891 when its founder, David Mouawad, had mastered watchmaking and jewelry in New York and Mexico before he took his skills back to Beirut. David’s passion for jewelry had transformed his small shop into a niche destination for bespoke pieces. Fayez took over in the 1950s and relocated to Saudi Arabia. He built a very successful business, riding on the boom of oil driving luxury jewellery demand in the region. Fayez’s attention to detail and personalized approach had, combined with good business acumen, Mouawad one of the leaders in the Middle East.
The third generation leader, Robert Mouawad, played a massive role in taking Mouawad to the international level. After relocating the head office of the brand to Geneva, Robert initiated other ambitious projects that cemented Mouawad’s name on an international scale. It was especially famous for getting some of the world’s most exquisite diamonds and inculcated the perception of opulence and authority about luxury jewellery into the brand. Going much deeper in social responsibility, Robert has played roles beyond the family business for, through his dedication to edification in gemstones and gemology, has he brought great support to The Gemological Institute of America, whose campus is called ‘Robert Mouawad’.
Today, Fred, Alain, and Pascal carry on the storied legacies of the brand on many new heights. It manifests in both collection-level realization and also through conception, design, and creation in individual pieces. The brothers, Mouawad brothers, control quality at each and every stage, whether rare gemstones are sought down to the final touch made within the company’s own in-house production facilities. Mouawad has set five Guinness World Records, including one for the world’s most valuable handbag; the Mouawad 1001 Nights Diamond Purse, valued at $3.8 million.
Another factor that speaks to the prestige of Mouawad is its collaborations with many famous celebrities and red-carpet events. This further increased the glamour quotient of the brand, so that anything created by it was all about luxury and glory. Thus, creations by Mouawad adorn the Hollywood celebrities and royalties too, hence, talking of its omnipresence and relevance to the luxury segment for ages to come.
Mouawad has always remained faithful to the roots of craftsmanship and innovation. Among its creations is the Mouawad L’Incomparable Diamond Necklace, and the Queen of Holland diamond, which illustrate the rarity, beauty, and timelessness of the artistry embodied by the brand. Mouawad rediscovers luxury with each generation: tradition married to forward-looking vision may yield creations that are both modern and eternally elegant. With its rich history and continued dedication to creating masterpieces, Mouawad stands as a beacon of luxury, admired and cherished by those who seek the extraordinary.
